How it works
New salary = current salary × (1 + raise % ÷ 100). Per-paycheck amounts divide by your pay frequency (26 for biweekly, 12 for monthly, etc.), and the hourly equivalent assumes a standard 2,080-hour work year. All figures are gross, before taxes and deductions.
Frequently asked questions
What is a good raise percentage?
In the US, merit raises average 3–5% per year. Promotions or job changes often bring 10–20%. Always compare against inflation so your real pay isn't shrinking.
Should I negotiate a 3% raise?
If inflation is 3% and your raise is 3%, your purchasing power didn't change. Aim above inflation and back it up with your contributions.
Is a bonus better than a raise?
A raise compounds year after year; a one-time bonus doesn't. A $3,000 raise beats a $3,000 bonus in every future year.
