Love Calculator

Two names, one score — and unlike most love calculators, ours is not a dice roll. The score is calculated from the letters of your names with a fixed formula, so you and your favorite person get the same answer today, tomorrow and next year.

Order does not matter — Romeo + Juliet and Juliet + Romeo score identically. Nothing you type leaves your browser.

How it works

The two names are tidied (lowercased, extra spaces removed), sorted so the order never matters, joined with a heart, and run through a hash function — a formula that scrambles text into a number in a completely fixed way. That number, taken modulo 101, is your score from 0 to 100. Same names in, same score out, forever: that is what makes it a calculation rather than a coin flip.

For fun only — a hash of two names measures nothing about an actual relationship. It is a party game with honest mechanics, not a verdict on anyone.

Method & worked example

Method: The names are lowercased, tidied and sorted (so order never matters), joined with a heart symbol, and run through an FNV-1a hash — a fixed formula that scrambles text into a number. The score is that number modulo 101, giving 0–100. There is no randomness anywhere in it.

Worked example: Romeo and Juliet hash to 67 — today, tomorrow, in either order, in any mix of capital letters. Jack and Rose hash to a perfect 100, and Sam and Jamie to 74. Same names in, same score out, forever.

Frequently asked questions

Why does our score never change?

Because it is computed, not drawn. Most love calculators quietly roll a random number; ours hashes your two names through a fixed formula, so the same pair always lands on the same score — Romeo and Juliet score 67 here, every single time.

Does the order of the names matter?

No. The names are sorted before hashing, so Romeo + Juliet and Juliet + Romeo both give 67. Capital letters and extra spaces are tidied away too.

What does a high score mean?

In game terms: 90+ is "written in the stars", 75–89 a strong match, 55–74 a warm one, 35–54 a slow burn and under 35 "the stars are just being dramatic". In real terms it means two names hashed to a big number — enjoy it accordingly.

Can I game the score with a nickname?

You can, and it is half the fun: different spellings are different text, so they hash differently. "Sam and Jamie" scores 74; try the full names and see what the stars say then.
